How we make money, and what a payment will never change
Sites like this one usually earn money when a reader opens an account with a bookie through a link. As at 29 September 2026, no bookie pays The Footy Slip anything, and every button on the site leads to our own bookie comparison. This page sets out how that would work if it changes, and the rules I'll keep either way.
Where things stand
No bookie, league or club pays this site as at 29 September 2026. The buttons that say "compare" lead to our bookie comparison, not to a bookie.
If a bookie pays us in future
- A fixed fee per new customer, and nothing else. We won't take a share of what customers lose or of how much they bet. From 1 January 2027 Australian law bans those payments to sites like this one, and NSW already does.
- Named on this page. Each paying bookie will be listed here, with the date the arrangement started.
- Named on the button. A button that leads to a paying bookie will say the bookie's name.
- Only licensed Australian bookies. No offshore bookies or casinos, on any page.
What a payment never changes
A bookie's commission doesn't change my ratings, my prices or the order of bookies on any page. The ratings come from match results and a formula that is published on How I tip; nobody can pay to move them. The bookie comparison lists facts in each bookie's own words, with links, in a fixed order. What you can rely on in those facts, and what you can't, is set out in the terms of use.
What you won't see
Promotions of any kind. NSW law bans advertising betting offers that encourage you to open an account or bet more, and it applies to affiliate sites as well as to bookies. It also isn't how I think anyone should pick a bookie.
